Marine Armor Plausibility?

October 3rd, 2007

Ok, ok.. is this really possible? Will a standard human unit actually fit in there?

Looks like it. That’s my silhouette, and the silhouettes of the major armor pieces.

Lots More C-14 Progress

September 24th, 2007

Render! And handles.
I’ve been working on this model bit by bit, and here’s the progress so far. Hopefully, this will be produced as a casting soon. Also, I have a hot-wire foam cutter working, to cut foam blanks for casting. It just needs a jig to be useful.

edit: I’ve also added the C-14 Impaler references to a page here.

C-14 Muzzle Detail

September 18th, 2007

Awhile back Blizzard released some new wallpapers for Starcraft 2. The ‘Nuke’ wallpaper has a couple great reference examples of the C-14 Impaler gauss rifle carried by Confederate, and presumably all, marines. I had something definitive to work from.

Here’s an unpolished view of my CAD model. Hopefully this is castable in aluminum.

Sword Fitting Castings

September 18th, 2007

SCA sword fittings, cast aluminum.

These are a spinoff project of the lost foam casting- sword hilts and pommels for the SCA. This batch of five will, hopefully, help raise a bit of money for a foam-cutting CNC setup.

Transformers Castings

September 5th, 2007

In search of something to test out casting technology on, and not having a CNC machine to churn out foam marine-suit parts yet, we settled on Transformers logos.

pre-finishing, ~1 hour after melt.

First up was the Decepticons’. It was coated with an investment made of clay slurry to try to preserve the surface finish of the foam.

It turned out alright, if a bit porous.

Autobots, in pink foam.

Next was the Autobots’.

When this came steaming out of the sand, encrusted with burnt motor oil, it looked and smelled like grim interstellar war.

Decepticon buckle, cast aluminum.

After a bit we got that down pat, so we shrunk it a bit, to belt buckle size..

And we also embedded stainless wire into it, to facilitate making it into a wearable belt.

Hello world!

G’day. Let’s get building.
