So I work at a TechShop now, which means I have access to lots of great CNC machines. The old gauss rifle files have been dusted off, and I’m giving them a go- here’s the first cuts of the gun.
Might try this with soft plastic soon, the MDF is a bit fuzzy to go straight into molding.

Hi Vrogy,
Thanks for sharing your steps. I am also an avid C4D user and a member of techshop here in Portland. Curious if you are able to use the .stl export from C4D, or if the .obj’s have a special advantage. Just joined up so I’m hoping to get to take a class on toolpaths and to use the 4×8 CNC Saber machine soon. I’ve picked up the basics in other CAD apps that might be more suitable for my goal, but honestly I love C4D so much that everything else looks like roadkill in the rear-view mirror.

No real advantage, it’s the same polygon data. If anything I grabbed the obj just to slice it up into machinable chunks. Let me know how your projects go!

hey, congrats on the new job,
what’s the name of the place, and what sort of machining do they specialize in if you don’t mind my asking? i’m from an engineering school myself, but those sort of jobs are hard to come by here in the philippines. i’m looking to do work in a similar field.
i find your stuff fascinating, do keep it up!
